Mike Rose
Who is Mr. Rose?
We asked Mike a few questions regarding his gambling history, style and experiences.
How many years have you been handicapping and where are you based out of?
I live in Chicago, cheer for the lowly Cubs, am a beat writer for the Arena Football League and I have been betting and handicapping for the last 10 Years.
Why did you decide to join Who2beton?
I joined Who2beton in 2000 to get in on the ground floor of something I felt would be special further along down the road.
What are the Systems and methods you use for Selections?
From a handicapping perspective, each sport has its own set of parameters, but if you wanted to break it down to percentages, I'd say all of my handicapping is 75% stats derived. Followed by 15% team and or league specific trends, and capped off with a 10% gut shot.
How do you Rate your Selections?
- 1,2 and 3*s - Action Bets
- 4* - Best Bets
- 5, 7 and 10*s - Top Plays - Title Games like Game of Month
What are the Sports you are best at Winning in?
I excel at MLB, College Hoops, College and Pro Football, and the AFL and always provide anaylsis with my premium selections. My best sport year after year is MLB and Arena football, however my strongest plays are my CBB Totals. Do not miss my plays in either of those sports or my CBB Totals.
Name something people tend to overlook or miss when handicapping a game?
One of the things I look for is playing against Road Favorities. The novice bettor always likes to back the favorite, but I say buyer beware. The teams with the better known players/coaches are always going to be overpriced. This usually presents value whenever one of these heavily publicized teams is on the road and playing the role of road favorite. More times than not, this scenario presents us with a case of "chalkdust torture". The road team is just looking to win the game straight up, and it makes no difference by how much or how few they win by. Meanwhile, the home team is getting points at home and they rarely take too kindly to that notion. Especially if the team has a pulse. Always keep your eye out for overinflated lines on popular teams, and be ready to lay down in a big way if the situation calls for a position on the home team.
Do you have any Superstitions?
I have some silly gambling superstions. I never wear any type of clothing (hats, T-shirts, sweatshirts) of the team I'm going against that specific day. I never wash my Bears jersey throughout the regular season until they lose, and you'll see my wearing it inside out if the game doesn't look good. I also never watch any of my higher rated selections (10*) all the way through. I just read about them in the boxscores. I put a large amount of work into all my GOY's, of which I'd have just one per specific sport season, and it's too nerve-racking to sit through an entire game with so much on the line.
What is your Favorite movie of all time (doesn't have to be gambling related)?
By being the movie buff that I am, it's pretty much impossible for me to list my #1 favorite movie of all time. Instead, I'll give you my favorites for each different category.
- Action - Terminator, Heat, Full Metal Jacket, The Bourne Identity, Transformers
- Horror - Halloween, The Exorcist, The Thing, The Grudge, Saw
- Sci-fi - Alien, Predator, War of the Worlds, The Matrix, Starship Troopers
- Drama - Primal Fear, The Shawshank Redemption, Scent of a Woman, American Beauty, Seven
- Comedy - Caddyshack, Dazed and Confused , A Fish Called Wanda, Slap Shot, Van Wilder
- Sports - The Natural, Tin Cup, Necessary Roughness, The Program, Little Giants
Is their one piece of advice you can give to new gamblers?
Some advice to the novices would include; don't get overwhelmed with all the different ways to handicap each respective sport. Dab a little in every philosophy and then pick and choose what works for you best. Then once you've done that, master it!!! You'll be a winner for many years to come. If not, log back into Who2Beton and allow us to show you the way.
